Hello everyone! My name is Mrs.Spraggins. This is my NINTH year as the technology teacher and Technology Coordinator at Irwin Academic Center. Before this, I taught 5th grade Inclusion for 13 years in Hampton, VA. Before that, I taught 4th & 5th Science and Computers in Pittsford, NY.
I am originally from Queens, NY by way of Pennsylvania, by way of Rochester, NY; by way of Newport News/Hampton, VA. I have 3 children; Lindsay, Chelsea, and David who are all grown. My husband, Christopher, and I now have 2 four-legged children a new puppy named Lucy and a crazy cat named Max. My whole family is into NASCAR racing. All 3 of my children have raced and now my grandson is racing 2 classes of race cars and my son is still racing 305 Sprint cars.
My husband and I are both computer "geeks." I love technology and have always incorporated it into my lessons. I was named i21 teacher in Hampton and was honored to be the only elementary teacher who was part of the 1:1 iPad Initiative in Hampton City Schools where all 5-8th grade students are given their own iPads to use throughout the school year. My class was also chosen as one of the pilot classes to initiate the program. It was an amazing experience for both myself and my students.
I am proud to say that I was able to accomplish some great things in the lab. The first big change is that I was able to replace the old desktops with new Google Chromebooks and wireless mice. The students transitioned beautifully. I was awarded the Charlotte Hornets Teachers Grant for $5000.oo. With that grant, I purchased a TriCaster for our TV Studio. Thanks to the Men of Irwin, we were able to get a 3-D Printer for the technology lab and, last year, our amazing PTA purchased 2 more 3-D printers for the lab. I was, also, given a Grant from Discovery Place and was able to actually build a 3-D printer for the Technology Lab.
I have been part of the Charlotte Teachers Institute (two times) and attended NCCAT over the summer to learn more about Google.
I am very excited to continue to be the technology teacher, technology coordinator, technology contact, and webmaster here at Irwin! My goal is to help my students become successful 21st Century learners and citizens. I look forward to an amazing year ahead.
